How do I get started?
The first step is to register on our website. We’ll then need to collect some personal details (ID and proof of address), along with your contract documents. Once signed and sent back to us, you’ll be ready to go.
Do I need to get insurance?
No. As an employee of No Worries Red Umbrella you fall under our professional indemnity, employer’s liability, and public liability insurance policy — all at no extra cost to you.
How about holiday pay?
You’re entitled to 5.6 weeks holiday pay each year, calculated on a pro rata basis to the number of weeks actually worked.
Do I pay you if I stop working?
No. Your fee is only payable if you are working. No work, no fee.
Do you give me a payslip each week?
Yes. You’ll receive a full payslip for every pay period, available through your online portal.
Who pays my PAYE and NI taxes?
As an employee of No Worries Red Umbrella, we take care of paying all your taxes. The money you receive into your personal bank account is all yours — there are no other provisions you need to make for keeping money aside to pay tax.
Is there a minimum tie-in period?
No, you can contract using No Worries Red Umbrella for as long or as short as you like. There are no entry fees and no exit fees.
Pension Contributions
All new employees are automatically added to our company pension scheme, run by Smart Pension. You’ll have complete control over your contribution percentage (subject to statutory minimums), and salary sacrifice provides an opportunity to reduce your overall tax bill. How do expenses work?
Since April 2016, if you work under Supervision, Direction, or Control (SDC), travel and subsistence expenses can no longer be claimed through your umbrella. We operate on the principle that all our umbrella workers operate under SDC. For legitimate expenses you incur, keep your receipts and claim them on your personal tax return — HMRC may issue a PAYE tax refund based on the total value.
Why is Employer’s NIC deducted from my payslip?
Through an umbrella company, Employer’s National Insurance still needs to be paid on your salary. Your contract rate should be adjusted to allow for this — it’s typically higher than an equivalent permanent role. The higher rate covers both the umbrella margin and the Employer’s NIC, so it’s something to factor in when negotiating your pay rate with your hiring partner.
